I am really looking forward to getting a violin this year if i can. I am 14 yrs. and learning to play violin has been my dream for years now. I already play clarinet and oboe so i know how to read music and i have had some practice with a violin from my friend who has one. I would like to know what brands of violins are best for starters and how pricy they are. If anyone has information on this please e-mail me at thecrazyone883@yahoo.com i would be most appreciative! Thank you!

Amber, it`s not easy to answer something like that. There are many brands out there and people`s opinions vary as to what a beginner needs. It`s easier if you tell us what sort of budget you are working to.

You shouldn`t get anything with decent quality for less than 600-700 dollars. I ordered a new violin some ten months ago, and it`s gonna cost circa 3200 dollars. It`s a top brand. But any 900-1000 dollar violin is good.

im 12 too. I bought one out of an ad in the paper, it sounds great and was about 500$ bit pricy but good condition. it has a gouge in the varnish but otherwise its good. its 10 years old.sometimes it doesnt matter whatbrand but how good of condition it`s in.
