Hello All you Violinists,

I am actually a pianist but I think that Chopin`s Nocturnes sound wonderful when arranged for violin and piano. So, I was wondering if any of you people have any sheet music of such arrangements. Particluarly Nocturnes Op. 9 No.2 and The Nocturne in C# Minor (postumous)

I`m a pianinst as well. Chopin wrote only for the piano, so if you did find some such arrangements they probably wouldn`t have the exact same type of allure, although it would be posible, with extreme care, to preserve the general essence fo the piece.
Anyway, if you really want this music, you could write the arrangement yourself. (provided you are reasonably adept with this type of music)

Yes, I realise that Chopin only wrote for piano (exept for a Cello Sonata and 2 Piano Concertos) But I have heard arrangements of his Nocturnes for Violin and piano before.

They have a very mystical quality about them. The Violin adds an eerie effect to these beautiful pieces. Honestly, they really do work. I am not usually a fan of transcriptions of one instrument`s pieces to another but in this case it really sounds wonderful.

I will try to arrange my own version, but I am not sure with what to do with the piano part.

Obviously, I will give the violin the main melody but that leaves only one line (The bass line) for the pianist. What am I supposed to do with the other hand?

if i were you I would just figure out the chord the bass was playing and give the piano more of the same, then add some little runs and trills where appropriate. Also, remember that just because the notes are on the treble clef that doesn`t mean they are necessarily part of the melody... have fun with it!

I am a college music major, and I was also in search of this piece. SHAR music has this available in a collection titled "Three Tracscpritions" by Nathan Milstein. Hope this was of help.

I have a recording from Rugiero Ricci dated 1958 playing Norturne No. 20 in C-sharp minor, op. posth arranged by Milstein

I have a violin and piano recording of that C sharp major posthumous nocturne you were talking about. I seems the melody is done by the violin and the piano simply does the rest. I play it on the piano and although most of the right hand is melody, in some measures you can find chords; the piano can help with them when playing with violin and piano duet.

Oooops sorry I said major instead of minor!! Anyway, although I`m not all that keen on transcriptions and arrangements, these nocturnes sound beautiful on violin and piano... And don`t worry, the piano has enough to worry about even if it has to play the bass clef only!!!

The reference Joshua Bell Romance of the violin, a beautiful art, I think that the Nocturne is Nocturne in C-sharp Minor, Op. Posth.

I do know that Chopin wrote a couple violin Nocturnes, in response to whomever wrote otherwise, because I have them on recording. As to where to find the sheet music for these pieces I don`t know. good luck with that
