Hi all.

I'm new to the forum and plan to pick up the viola again after 15 years. (Long time between drinks, as the locals say.)

I'm planning to spend something within the $500-$600 mark and I've got my eye on a Dolfin and a Gliga II. I recently went to a shop and though the consultant was quite helpful, there were no Gliga II violas for me to inspect. I had to take his word for it when he said Gligas have an overall better sound than Dolfins. I did get to hear the Dolfin and I warmed to it immediately. Any feedback on either brand? Should I pick another brand entirely?

Thanks in advance for the feedback. Also, I don't know if this matters, but I'm in Melbourne.

Cheers,
Michelle

On the main Gliga site: www.gliga.ro They have only three places that sell the Gliga models. 1 shop in US, Japan, and Australia.
The address listed for Australia is:
37-39 Whiting Street Artarmon NSW Australia 2064
Phone: 02 9439 1822, e-mail: info@paytons.com.au

I hope this helps. I'm hoping to get one of the Violas myself.

Hi Dan.

I've actually already been offered a Gliga II viola for well below the retail price and I'm making arrangements to inspect it. I just wanted to know if anyone on here had experience with both Gligas and Dolfins so that I could make an informed decision. With all the great things I've been hearing about Gligas I'm starting to lean in that direction.
Thanks anyway!

I haven't seen much on other instrument makers but when I saw all the good things about Gliga, I started leaning that way too. A local shop guy is trying to get me to get Knilling or Glaesel and saying what ever I find, that he could get it at a lower price. I still like the idea of gliga. They're a little more in my price range and great reviews. Good luck on your search.

I purchased a Gliga from Violin Lovers before Christmas. The company sent me the wrong violin and the wrong case. The company will not return my e-mails or phone call. Dealing with this company has been a major disappointment. My only choice is to dispute the purchase through the credit card process.

I just got a Gliga. It came in on Dec 1st and I really enjoy it. I just wish I was able to find an instructor. I've been trying to teach myself some stuff but I think I would progress better with some help.
