how does everyone explain the viola to people who don`t know what it is (since, sadly, there are a lot of them)? just asking.

I always just tell them its bigger than a violin but you still play it like one and it has the same notes as a cello but its not that low pitch but not as high as the violin. Its in between the two. they usually get it (or just stop trying to understand) by then

I basically tell them it almost get as high as a violin and low as a cello...so its the best.

Mostly, I`m saddened by the fact that many people have no idea what a viola is. Usually, I will just tell them it`s bigger than a violin and has a lower string. But to be honest, I liked the comment about it being tuned like a cello; I never thought to tell people that.
