Ditto whut someone else sed? That ex-violinist rnt always violists!!! Thats so not true! Any1 can play an instrument if they have confidence bout it...now lets stop all this nonsense! Im w/ Martina, the viola will always be my instrument!!! But for me the violin has nvr met the standards of a viola, in a viola there`s variety: a relatively high A string, a Sweet sounding D string, a buttery G string (lol), and a mysterious C string! Thats y i play the viola; cuz i totally love it!!! The way it sounds, the size, and the fun of playing it, any1 else can do the same. EL FIN
not just anyone can play viola. though i have been trying for going on two years i just cant play the viola.sure i love it. that doesnt mean i can play it well. for the record i play in a school orcastra with 21 violins and i largely rely on the 2nds to get my part. sure i may not have the best instrument in the world, therefore i have puke worthy sound, but even so i know unless i up practice time to three hours a day from 2, ill never get it. many people in my class (violins)have higher chairs than me.they never practice. ive never past an audition in my life. im inconfident.my fingers are too awkwardly clumbsy. sure practice helps, but thats only half the deal. it takes talent ,and a record of playing since your in diapers to be a pro.

they can get pretty harsh, i don`t really care but most of them can apply to violins anyways. you violinist suck. not. I appreciate all respectable players, that means those who also respect us, the violist who will soon dominate the world. MUHAHAHAHAHA. haha
The viola is special =P it has it`s own scale. But getting nice music is damn hard and expensive...
Don`t bag the violists! You may think they`re uptight but it`s just when someone can`t tell the difference between a viola and a violin; it`s just like you would correct someone with their english it comes naturally or you get annoyed at it, as I am a violist I actually started learning this before the violin and I think that the viola is way better than the violin any day.
Violin`s get all the melody and good parts of the orchestra, but next time you listen to an orchestra think what it would sould like minus the viola`s =P

As far as I am concerned, the viola is just an inferior cousin of the violin.
Its size does not accomadate its range properly, which in turn contributes to the viola`s poor projection and lack-luster tone.
Furthermore, the viola`s typical tuning (in 4ths) is not adept for solo music. Shifts become quite difficult and slurpy.
Viola virtuosos, if you can call them that, tune their instruments in 5ths for precisely that reason... One wonders why not play the violin then (which IS tuned in 5ths and has a far better repertoire, most likely due to its superiority)
What is the difference between a viola and roadkill?

What`s really bizzare is that Mr. "Voice of Reason" doesn`t seem to know the first thing about the viola. The viola is not tuned in fourths, it is tuned in fifths. Always has been, always will be. Every player tunes this way, from rank begginer to virtuoso.
Now Mr. "Voice of reason": where are you getting this false information from?
