Is there such a thing as an electric viola? Or is the 5 string electric violin the closest I`m going to get? I`m assuming the 5 strings are E A D G C? I`d like to know more, and haven`t had a chance to go to the music store. Any information and/or advise?

Im sure there are electric violas, theres electric everything else.

Also for cheaper, take a look at music123 and look for pickups to attach to an acoustic viola... theyre about $100 each and would fit on your current instrument. I believe you attach an instrument cable into it then hook it up to your amp but i havent used one. Thinking about getting one for my violin.

Lloyd Loar, Head of Gibson in (part of) the 1920`s, made an electric viola---for himself. I don`t think they were ever massed produced---just interesting to see one all the way back then!

There are 5 string acoustic violins on Ebay by the brand name of "Wurzburg" - I`m not sure how reliable they are though, or Ebay for that matter. People normally get them [from Ebay] for $180 and below. There are also 5 string violas 16.5" that are made by the Peter Michaels violins (or is it Paul Michaels??) Good Luck in your search.

check out woodviolins.com

they are incredible instruments and relatively cheap. You can get a 7 string viola, with frets or without frets.

I am saving up for either a sabre or a viper. I am positive that the viper omes a sa viola, but the sabre, I have to ask Mr. Woods about it.
