Rusalka,

I completely agree with you and your teachers who stated: "IT`S FAR BETTER TO STUDY 20 MINS BE IT, D A I L Y, THAN HOURS ON END OVER THE W-END"

There is a great deal of truth in that. Much progress can be made by doing a little each day, and then giving it all a chance to "get into the brain" overnight. In fact, I remember reading somewhere that practicing in the evening before bedtime was beneficial for that very reason.

I guess that depends. It might take me 20 minutes just to play the first line right depending on how hard the music is. And then if the rest of the music is similar to that line then I`ll play that till I get it down. Half of the time I`ll play for hours just because I`m bored, LOL . If the piece of music is real hard, then I`ll spend most of that time writing down the fingerings on the sheet music and counting the beats, like if theres 4 beats to a measure like: (4--16th notes, a dotted quarter note, 3 more 16th notes and a 8th note) then instead of counting 4 beats to a measure, I`ll count 12 beats to a measure and play it a little slower. That`s what takes me personally several hours to learn a piece of music.

Hey there-I`m 62 and would like to learn to play the cello but can`t afford a bunch for an instrument at this time. Any help on finding a good beginner cello would be appreciated. Thanks

Denis, you are in luck! I have a student cello that I no longer use. It is a cremona SC-175 (I think.) I picked it up last year, and I am going to let it go. I purchased a beautiful stringworks cello that was repaired after a particularly (sp?) dry winter in their facility. You can email me for details. busa_hooligan@yahoo.com

I am also an adult beginner, and reciently changed instructors, out of necissity, due to a cross country move, and I am not at all satisfied with this tutor. If anyone has any references in the Mississippi gulfcoast region, please let me know. My searches have turned up zilch!

Good luck to all, and happy holidays.
