Deffinitely!
I have taught students switched to cello just like you. One switched after 7 years of playing the violin. She eventually switched to cello perminantly. Just remember there are several pros and cons when switching instruments. There are lots of similarities AND differences. To conquer the difference is a real challenge. Just don't assume that you will learn quicker than the total beginners the correct bow hold and left hand rendering, besides note-reading.
