Okay I'll admit that this is somewhat of an oddball question. It's in regards to cello placement and posture. When I hold the cello at the proper angle I find it very uncomfortable to play due to the fact that the instrument is resting on my chest, which is not the smallest size, causing the cello to sit further from my body than someone without my...blessings, making it difficult to play and reach some of the notes. Any suggestions on alternate ideas on how to handle this problem? It looks ridiculous for me to rest my chest on the top of the instrument (not to mention it being horrible placement) but it seems the only way that I can comfortably play.
PS: I tried to make this post as G rated as possible while getting my point across...
Most of the cellists I know put it underneath the "chest." It kind of hits the bottom few ribs that way. I'm not really sure how "acceptable" it is, but hey, it works.
i place the cello just below my chest, i have your problem too, so i place it just below my chest so only the neck is in contact with my chest, it's really confortable and more natural than having it higher, because its easier to manipulate and play it.
