I just started cello it's SO AWESOME!!!!!! my fingers have to get used to that stretching and I need a stronger bow hand but it's so awesome any tips for beginners?
I must agree, habits are quite hard to break, so dont be in a hurry to get good fast. if you concentrate on the fundamentals, then you will be better quickly, just focus on doing things right.
yeah just what they said, all about getting the technical aspects on top before advancing too quickly. The process may seem slower, but in a few months, hell weeks, there will be an ENORMOUS difference to your sound. trust me on this one, and PLEASE PLEASE have the patience to go through it properly!!!! I'm on my hands and knees BEGGING you!!!
Make sure that you play louder on the parts you've trained more and know them better.
The parts you know well should be played at the dynamic the music specifies. You might emphasize, on the other hand, the parts you're unsure of, so that at least you sound sure of not being sure, so to speak. Don't be a mouse: make your mistakes with conviction.
I don't trust dynamics that are written. Use your own dynamics as you want.
So I think that you should play as you want - not as others want.
Play for you if they like it or not.
The composer probably thought very carefully about his dynamics, just as he thought very carefully about his notes. If he's a good composer, he worked to make the piece integrated. Arbitrarily changing one aspect of a well-written piece is like arbitrarily changing one clue in a crossword puzzle: You can't do it without messing up the entire puzzle.
Oh, a good composer. However good he is, im sure YOU can come up with something better. I trust nobody but myself. I don't need a intelligent, good, famous, etc. composer to tell me how to play.
Then don't play anyone else's music; the written dynamics are as much a part of the piece as the written notes.
Beyond that, learning to play written dynamics is learning to control dynamics. Playing "your own dynamics" really amounts to having no control over dynamics; it really amounts to slop--and your self-indulgent, undisciplined attitude is a pretty sure symptom of immaturity.
