Has anyone had any experience with or known anyone who has an electric cello or have heard one played.

In what way, just the feel of it compared to the standard type? I am interested in the tonal qualities compared to an acoustic also. What kind was it.

It was about a year ago, so I honestly don't remember what kind it was... I'm partial to the warmer sound of my acoustic, and thought the electric sounded a bit nasal.

yamaha silents are fantastic, although it does take a few plays to get used to the 'fake' sound coming from you cello. your technique does not affect the sound as much, and you can add all sorts of cool effects like wa-wa pedals and ditortion. its funky, modern, but not classical.

sorry, i meant 'distortion'

Thanks anyway fortunecookie, I am searching right now because my acoustic sounds nasal and I would like a more mellow sound.
I get better sound in the low notes and the higher I go the more nasal it sounds kind of like someone holding their nose and singing. I have tried moving the sound post but the difference I have gotten doesn't really satisfy me.

Thanks for your reple, captain, yes, the effects are nice and I could have fun with that but if the sound doesn't come up to an acoustic, then I wouldn't be any happier. I love that mello full sound I have heard from professionaly played acoustics and really am almost ashamed to let anyone hear me play. I have played at church and have been recorded and the recording sounds so empty and painful in the high range.
My bridge is warped slightly and I am going t try a new bridge next.

screw replacing a bridge man, go and buy a spanking new cello! lol. i had a very similiar problem: my cello was nasal, and although it was loud, the sound was very muffled. i tried evrything: sound post adjustments, tailpiece replacements, a set of larson soloist/pirastro strings and even resized the thickness of the wood on the back, but it didnt make much of a difference, so i saved up and bought a fantastic cello which im very pleased with!

You are right. I do need a new cello. Wish I could afford a decent one. What did you end up getting?
