Hi cellists! I'm a flutist by nature, but as a requirement for my degree, I must learn (at least to some basic level) to play 'cello. Problem is, I was given a university-owned 'cello to learn on, and one of the strings is missing. I've discussed this with the instrument manager, and apparently it's my responsibility to restring it (don't ask me why!), but unfortunately, I haven't the slightest clue how to go about that. I've restrung my guitar a fair few times, but never really touched a 'cello until about 3 days ago. Anyway, my question is this:
Is this something I should attempt myself? And if so, can someone please suggest a good brand of string to use, and explain how to put it on? I'm grateful for any help you can provide!
i would say, take it to a professional maker and get it completely restrung. if it's got a string missing, most likely the other strings are on the verge of quitting too. for A and D, get larson soloists and for the bottom two, i would recommend piratsro (no i don't know which type of pirastro)
(although they are quite expensive. if budget's a little tight, get a full set of jargar)
Thanks! The teacher for my string techniques class is going to show us how to restring them, and even provide the strings, so I guess that's taken care of. I appreciate your help, though!
