People are always warning against buying e-bay cellos, because they're pieces of crap (which is why they're so cheap!). In this case, it might be one thing they're actually good for.
You could also try borrowing one from someone (check out school orchestras, maybe?), or perhaps renting one from a local music shop. They might be cheaper/easier depending on what you can find.
