i`m already 16 and I play the flute and piano. Do you think it`s too late for me to start learning cello?? And do you think learning 3 instruments is far too much???
NO and no. The real question is; who is going to teach you how to play the cello? It doesn`t matter how old or young you are, if no one shows you how to play, you will have a hard time learning yourself.

hey
i don`t think that it`s really ever too late to learn how to play an instrument. and if you have seen some of the posts, lots of people seem to play 3 or more instruments. i play quite a few anyways. but you should learn whatever instrument you want. best of luck,

16 too late? 55 years ago I was 16 years old. This year I started learning cello and I have a friend who started when he was 72 and has played for 11 years. No, 16 is not too late. Determination and practice is the key. Spend time with the bow.

NO WAY!!!! Go for! Believe it or not, i also play the flute and piano, and played them before i took up the cello, WEHEN I WAS 16!!And i had also kinda given up the piano at this stage but still 3 instruments is not too much, it only broadens your musical horizons. After taking up cello i got to final grade distinction level on all three. And believe it or not, 2 years after taking up the cello(i`m 18 now) i am studying it as my principal instrument for my bachelor of music degree in college. You will be at an advantage as you can already read bass and treble clefs, both are used on the cello. I`m walking proof you CAN do it so go for it!!!!!!!!!

I`m 16 too, and i`ve been playing the drums for 8 years now. I just started playing the cello the other week and i love it, as long as you have a decent teacher, you`ll learn preety quickly.

Oh no! Never too late!! And three instruments is just starting... when you become a professional and you begin to do musicals and orchestra performances around the country, you NEED to know how to double. It`s useless if you only play one instrument... try to pick up some more wind instruments first before picking up the cello. You`ll find the extra wind instruments helpful, and then you can begin to tackle the strings!
