well on a tuba, it is low F; that is one octave below the one that is one below the staff.

For Bb Tuba with 4 valves is kind of low A (2 octaves below staff). Once one profesional player showed me how he plays and he went even lower. Happy new year to all tuba players!!!

Since you`re a cellist, I`d suppose that you`re wondering about string bass...

-------------------------G
-------------------------F
-------------------------D
-------------------------B
-------------------------G
E- This E is the lowest on a normal string bass.
C-
-- On a 5 string electric bass, the B above this line is the lowest

Austin,

If I go by what your saying then G is the lowest note(2 notes below what you said, the B note on the 5 electric bass) on the music that I have. It also says (C Bass) whats that? It all makes no sence to me!

the lowes note is a c on a cello. So for a standard upright bass the lowest note is and E.it`s about 9 note lower then a cello.

(lowest note
on the cello)--C
-b
-b flat
-a
-a flat
-g
-f sharp
lowest bote -f
on the bass)---e

C.S.S.E.J.,

Yes like I said it makes no sence. Maybe that music is for some instrument rather that the cello or bass. When I said there are notes on this last line on my first responce, I meant the notes under the dash.

-----------------------------------------
If the above ledger lines are for bass
clef [Eff-Kleff], then bottom ledger line
is A when a note is right on it. I think
it`s about 3 piano keys beyond [left of]
the left end of a piano [IOW lower than
any piano note].

The bottom staff-line is G, near the left
end but still on the piano keyboard.

A 4-string bass is only about 1/2 octave
deeper than your cello. A 5 string goes
a full octave below cello.

--------------------------
I think "C Bass" just means the bass
is in C-tuning, it`s natural [concert]
tuning. A bass tuned in 4ths is in
concert tuning whether it`s tuned
EADG, EADGC, BEADG, or BEADGC [or even
F#BEADGC [yes, they make 7-strings and
beyond for electric bass, but the F#
string itself is made only by 1 or 2
companies.] A bass is a "C-instrument"
regardless of what its lowest string
happens to be. It`s just transposed.
