If you can afford a teacher, get one. If not, go to the music store and get the clerk to recommend a basic beginner's guitar method book. You'll learn your first position notes and many chords, many songs, and be able to sing, play and chord soon if you work at it.

Get a teacher. Even if you can't afford one, me and im sure several other people on 8notes.com will be glad to help with anything. There are several guitar sites that help you find chords. I also recomend learning tabulature. But that should NOT be your only source of learning. You will get nowhere.
