Has anyone played music for Recorder and Guitar? I don't mean the easy, cheezy stuff, like Hot Cross Buns and stuff... I mean more serious works and transcriptions.
I play both classical guitar and recorder. I would like to try some of the stuff Michala Petri and Hannibal are playing. Anyone familiar with it?
You can check out my brand new Recorder forum here...
Its hard to find anyone who plays the recorder unless they are a pro or semi-pro woodwinds player. The amateur recorder player seems to be non-existent. It doesn't help that all the elementary schools have removed the recorder and music in general from their curriculum. First or second graders used to have mandatory recorder classes in most major cities in the US up until the 80's. (I started on the recorder - thankfully made of wood)
oh and also jimi hendrix played recorder on some of his studio work, paul machartney played one both with wings and with the beatles (think fool on the hill), belle and sebastian from scotland have recorder guitar combo going on, brian jones (of rolling stones) has been known to play recorder on some tracks too.
i think the question initally was more related to classical guitar...but the combination exists in the rock and pop world. it is a beautiful combination of instruments and should get the credit it deserves as such.
"If 6 was 9" by Hendrix has a rowdy, cacophonic ending with recorder. Don't know if its Hendrix playing but I wouldn't be surprised. "Crosstown Traffic" was doubled with kazoo/guitar unisons giving its characteristic sound.
