I am thinking of buying a Fender Squire Strat(i'm cheap). I have some questions:
1)Maple or Rosewood neck?
2)How do you choose an amp? Does size affect the quality?
I'm not so sure about maple vs rosewood, but i do have experience with amps.
I use an amp (Crate) with a main head and two speakers, totaling a height if 4 ft. It sounds amazing. I also have a 1 ft compact amp (Guitar Research) for traveling. It sounds horrible.
Try out all the amps you can when you're in a guitar shop. You'll notice the difference in sound. Unless you plan on traveling, I recommend staying away from the cheap travel amps.
The maple sounds too bright on an already bright sounding guitar. The rosewood will sound warmer.
Speaker size and wattage make the difference. Most guitar players should use a 10" or 12". It takes 30 watts to even think about hearing yourself while jamming with a drummer. Crate makes a great vintage style tube 30 watt 12" that sounds incredible and is not too expensive. It can go from super clean to metal. I've used them in clubs for 15 years and all the other guitar players want one, after they hear it.
