Ive started teaching myself piano but ive found its extremely difficult. I was wondering if any pianists here had any advice or exercises i could do to help me learn faster. I just want to be able to play some of Chopins easier pieces. Im mainly having trouble getting both hands properly and in time.

Although boring, practicing scales etc. will strengthen the muscles in your fingers which will help you alot. Practice extremely slowly at first (and even when you can play a piece fast, always practice slowly as well). I`m sure other people will have better advice though.

Try considering each new hand arrangement as a single motion. Perhaps you already do, bu if not.....

There is a really good book called `I used to play piano` which has loads of exercises. It also has songs which are in units. Unit 1 is very easy Unit 2 easy Unit 3 intermediate etc.

Look at other people doing it, and imitate them; don't go to the next piece until you play the current one perfect; do many technical exercises and practise regularly; have patience… Maybe it seems to you you're not achieving much, but everything will come in time. Teaching yourself requires a lot of self-discipline and perseverance, and it's difficult, but hopefully you will achieve your goals in a near future.

Jennthepianist... No one cares, and obviously he's NOT finding it fun and easy, which is why people are trying to HELP him.

One of the easiest self-teaching methods is to find a recording of the song and trying to play along with it, from my experience.
