The mayor of our town is retiring and there is going to be a really big ceremony/dinner in his honor. Our high school jazz band will be playing for the mayor and the guest at the dinner. My band director told me the other day that there will be alot of doun time and he dosn't want the whole band playing all the time cause it would be too much. He said while the guest ate he wanted me to play some imrov/easy listening/elivator type of music. I just need some advice from some piano players that have experience in this aria. What cord processions should i play, things like that. please help me
A good place to start is with open position chords. And a great place to learn how to use them for easy piano improvisation is at http://www.quiescencemusic.com They've got a great free lesson there called "Reflections in Water" that may be perfect for what you're talking about.
