I was just curious how many of you guys are self taught pianists and how many years everyone has been playing. Post up a response to tell everyone about yourself! I thought this would be a good way for all the pianists to get to know each other.

As for me, I've had about a year of lessons and have been playing on and off for about 2 years I guess.

I've learned for 3 years and then my teacher stopped teaching and I didn't bother to find another. I'm self learning now.

I tried teaching myself for two years, but I couldn't even play with two hands together during that time... Now, I have had formal lessons for a little over a year, and, I'm not bragging, but I went to state for Solo and Ensemble for a class A piano solo (Schubert's Impromptu no. 2 in A-flat), and got a first! It was very encouraging for me to keep studying piano, and, expand my repetoire.

I don't really find that hard to believe. Some people can progress really fast if they focus and take lessons.

oh and i played piano without lessons(kinda taught by my mom but i'm better than her now) for about 5 years and with formal lessons for 2.

i've been playing whenever i can get a piano and i play by ear, quite well actually.

Maybe I take things too seriously, I have been working on the piano and flute for 35 years...I wouldn't call it "playing"...

i have been playing for 20 years but learned the keyboard most piano was self taught but coz there are peices of music i want to play am not getting lessons going back to basics for the piano
