I've mostly taught myself piano for almost two years by reading online about different techniques and things. I also take music classes at school, but I feel that to truly make progress, I need a proper teacher. I've heard lessons are expensive, though, and was wondering how much I should expect to pay? How frequent are lessons? Also, would you recommend private or group lessons?

O well i would say private for sure. Everyone is at different levels so you need to be one on one.

for me i have 30 minute lessons once a week
and they are about $25 each
which is quite a bit but still probably the average.

i would say if you can find a good teacher for $20 per half hour.
you should go for it

hope i help

o by the way i live in Australia so its aus dollars and such

Yeah. i would definitely take private lessons, you learn at your own pace that way. I'm from a small town so i was lucky enough to get lessons at only $5 for 30 minutes. i know, hard to believe but she was a really nice lady who just really enjoyed teaching. I can't find lessons for that cheap anymore. But, recently i started taking lessons at college. That might be something you could look into because the extended education programs in some colleges offer lessons to anyone willing to learn and not just the students. I took them and the lessons were given by students majoring in piano or music but the good part is that the lessons are considerably cheaper compared to other instructors. Let me know if this helps. I didn't mean to write a book though. sorry.

Ah, well, I suppose school lessons will have to do for now. Thanks for the responses, everyone!

Well my last teacher that I took lessons from was $35 for an hour. But I recently changed and the one I have now is $50 for a half hour. which is really expensive but he works at Julliard. So it varies a lot which can depend on the persons experience.
