i just played a song called simple gifts at my brothers wedding. it starts off very romantic but in the middle it becomes very complex and fun to play. if you respond to this i can go see what arrangement it was and who the composer was. it's truely an amazing piece. i actually have it uploaded as an mp3 up on my page if you want to check it out. if it doesnt work it's still getting approved by the website
Play one of the Chopin Scherzos. The first is wild and fast. The second is fast but has a great slow middle section, and the third is I think the most difficult because of very fast octaves and all the arpeggios. Try a listen- I bet you will like them. If you want something a little different, try some Mendelssohn, I especially like the Rondo Capriccioso In E, Op. 14. I hope I helped!
Grieg's Ballade in G minor is good piece that changes tempi, time signatures, and I believe a few keys. It is quite a long piece, but still do-able nonetheless; just depends on how long you want to work on it.
Most of the songs you all mentioned are ones that I have previously played and are definitely not challenging enough, like Fur Elise, Rondo Alla Turca, and the Chopin Nocturne.
I'm looking into the Chopin scherzo's and the Grieg ballade. They're all really great pieces, especially to listen to, but I guess I don't find them aesthetically pleasing enough.
Ugh... I'm so picky...
I'm SO tempted to play Fantasie Impromptu again, but I played that in seventh grade and I don't want to take steps backwards.
For another great piece, but not necessarily from the Romantic era, Rachmaninoff's Elegy in E-flat minor is a wonderful piece, but I'm thinking it's difficulty is a bit lacking. If not, maybe try some pieces by Gottschalk for some virtuosity.
i recomend Clair De Lune
it's in the key og Bb
ya i'm not the great (in my eyes)
and havnn't gotten past the first mesure

You could try something other than romantic repertoire- such as something from the baroque period. A piece that I just performed is JS Bach's Partita No. 2 in C minor for piano. I only really liked romantic stuff before that, but now i am hooked on Bach. You could try some of the Preludes and Fugues from the Well Tempered Clavier. Those take some time and colleges love to see students who can perform them.
'Liebestraume no.3' by Franz Liszt is definitely the piece you're looking 4.
Or,
You could of course try the 'Fantasie Impromptu' by Frederic Chopin.
These are my favourite piano pieces. And I'm sure you'll agree with me.
