Tape myself? e.... ah... I would so not watch it. Besides it`s just a tape for a solo performance, just a prior submission kind of like a proposal. Plus it doubled as my university tape audition for York University.

I found that using my MD and a mic to record eliminated most of the fuzzy sound and that it picked up a lot more of the dynamics and the subtleties of the piece itself. Of course when I transferred it to tape it made it fuzzy, but if I wanted better quality I would just change it to mp3 format on my computer and send it in.

I`ve never taped myself. I`ve wanted to. It would be cool to tape the sound, `course. The only voice record type thing I have is on my compu.

Well, hum, I`ve never tried recording using the computer before, I`m sure it would be so much easier to edit using the computer. However my piano is too heavy to lug down the stairs!

I did my audition recording using my MD and it turned out alrightish, not great, but better than a tape!

How about a suggestion for what I should learn for my next solo? I just did the Fantaisie Impromptu on Thursday for a performance so it`s on to the next one!

Hmm, any genre? I like Mozarts (I think) Turkish March. Wouldn`t mind playing myself one day.

No genre in particular.. just please please not Bartok!

Want something fairly challenging, and interesting to play. I have until May after all! I love a challenge and something I can do in a reasonable amount of time would be great to look into.

I suggested to some Dud in an other forum that if you`re in a lower greade like 3 (pity me!) you could try something in a higher grade like 10 (smiles in awe at wonderful, big people)

Well... um.. I`m already in grade 10 piano! and the last piece I played for a solo (Fantaisie-Impromptu - Chopin) was from I think, the ARCT performer`s list. So I`m already trying harder pieces, however, when I played this piece, I wasn`t "mature" enough as a pianist, as I lacked a little bit of something in it, perhaps feel, or quality, but the notes were all accurate.

I`d like to try a piece of some difficulty that would be similar. Hopefully after playing the Chopin piece, I have become a bit better as a pianist and a performer.

I don`t know of a pieces much harder than classical. Pitiful me is only in grade 3, hoping to be in grade 10... one day.

What`s the feeling about digital pianos here? I recently bought a technics digital piano, mainly for budget reasons but also because it`s so easy to record. I record with a band and it used to take ages to get a satisfactory mic set up with a real piano.
It`s supposed to be sampled on a Steinway grand - the touch is a bit on the light side, but the sound is good although sometimes lacking in `color`.
Of course I would prefer the real thing any day, but for the money I have to say I`m impressed.

Sometimes I do have to play on one, whenever we travel for concerts and such, and sometimes, they are not that bad, the Yamaha Clavinova`s are alright, well some of them are.

The reason for the digital piano`s is as you just said, easier to record than a normal piano, because you can just plug it in and the digital sound will record. Piano is one of the hardest instruments to record (really I tried and I failed!) that`s why there is such a big market for digital pianos, plus the fact that some of the decent ones are cheaper than a regular piano even if it does lack in touch or sound.

I wish my keyboard had a simple record button and ivory keys!

Thanks for the feedback. I am not a big fan of digital pianos, but if it makes the piano playing experience accessible to more people then it can`t be a bad thing. Myself, I am quite happy to record for my band with a digital piano for the ease of use, and because I don`t record anything particularly demanding. And to be honest the acoustic pianos on offer at most of my recording sessions aren`t that great. The digital pianos sound a bit clinical, and perhaps lack character, but are always reliably in tune!
I have played the Yamaha Clavinovas and also several Rolands, but I`m always drawn to the Technics range in that price bracket. If I had the money, I would be buying Kurzweil (very convincing) or maybe the real thing!
Anyone else have an opinion on digital pianos?

What`s you`re band called?
Not much to say on digital pianos. There are 3 very simple keyboards in my house. (Just keyboards, with voice buttons and wacky demo songs) They are begginer level, so couldnt really be called digital pianos.
