Hi
I`m 16 and I`m doing my grade 8 exam - at the moment i try to do around 3 hrs mimimum a day - as it gets closer to my exam I`ll have 2 do more, but hey
I definately understand wat u mean by tryin` to find the time to fit it all in with skl and stuff - i find that one of the hardest things to do - that`s why i get up at 4:30 every morning to try fit it all in
best of luck with your practice

I`ve finished my piano exams and am now doing my medals so practice my piano about 3-4 hours a day and flute for the about 1-2 a day as for the rest of my instruments they mostly only get about half an hour but more on weekends. There is just not enough hours in the day for music

a min of 3 hours daily at grade 8 piano? Thats a bit hard to believe. when i took my grade 8 piano, which only took me a year to complete might i add, only practised, at most 45mins, though I slacked off alot, and still got an 80 percent. Im in grade 10 now, and I still dont practise 3 hours daily!
anywho, right now i practise at most, 2 hours, though, as youve probuly observed, im quite lazy

oh and to the starter of this thread.
The amount of time needed to `get good` depends on the person. Im 15 also. how long have you been playing?

I usually play about 1-2 hours and I`m going into Panel this year. It depends though... I`m not looking for a career in music. It`s just one of my hobbies.

It is not sufficient. A reasonably serious pianist or piano student needs to practice a minimum of two hours per day (and it needs to be productive practice, not filling time). Since, however, you`re "only" fifteen, as you say, I wouldn`t sweat it for now--unless your ambition is to become a concert pianist. Before you turn twenty you`ll need to decide whether you`re willing to get serious and MAKE time for practice. You still have a few years to mull it over.

I wish I learned the piano first...
All that I can say, is my friend and I, we just play; don`t practice.

Bill Evans practiced three hours a day when he was a kid, six hours a day when he was in college, and at least six hours after college. He continued to keep up his classical repetoire his entire life even though he never played any of it in public.
