Melodically disabled? Melody is not the point of drums. Beat. rhythm. a focus. As a former percussionist and now drummer I take pride in drumming. I put so musch effort into my drum set that a percussionist crashing cymbals together or hitting bells would never dream of doing. I get to solo, make beats. A drummer improvises, creates, and is dedicated to what they do! I have worked hard to make my drum set mine if you have any questions email me.

I totaly disagree. I have been in marching band for over 7 years playing the drums. Drums are the most important instrument because they keep beat to the whole band. Without us, you would be screwed. Drummers arent suppose to have melody anyway.

i totally dissagree...
i know some drummers, who are drummers, guitarist, pianists, bassists, and singers... and they do an awesom job with music, and most of them, drumming is there first instrument, so i totally disagree.

I mainly play drum set and even it has melody! Just think about the 100s of notes and sounds I can make by hitting drums, cymbals, cymbal bells. I also play mallet perc. in my school band.
I just want you to tell Terry Bozzio that drummers have no melody!!!!

I strongly disagree. In fact, I couldn't disagree with you more. Melodically, drummer can be just as talented or skilled as a guitarist or pianist. The only problem is that most drummers don't take music classes so they only know how to bang on random things. If you've seen a true jazz drummer tear up a drumset, though, you will see how melodically brilliant we can be. Drumsets actually have more room than any other intrument (ever created) for musical innovation and talent. You can make many different sounds out of one single drum and combine many other sounds, too. You can also use drums for melodic purposes as well as rythmic purposes. You can bang out a strong back beat on the bass and high hat pedals while playing Brahm's lullaby with soft mallets on the toms. The drums are the single most dynamic and progressable instrument simply because they are not tied down to simple harmonics in seperate octaves. They can be used for virtually any expresion in any form of music with any type of interpretation. To say that most drummers are dumbasses, is actually valid because I do know alot of drummers that are really stupid and don't unsderstand music, but you have stereotyped all drummers to be talentless apes. Most drummers are melodically untrained musicians, but the best ones know how to manipulate every part of drums to their will; these are the true drummers.
I disagree I can sing better than alot of people and can probably keep a better tune than the rest of the band. My buddy plays bass and he and I are the best singers in the whole middle school ! you may be a medolical !****! but I mean come on , you need to look at what you wrote - musicians, a musician can do the whole 9 yards so yeah i would have to disagree on that particular subject.

What! are you serious? listen here elton John... drummers arent !****!s, if they were why would we be needed in nearly every type of music, Rock, Hip hop, jazz, Rap...the list goes on...if you do enough research you will see im right. Im not going to bash piano, i wont stoop to your level of ignorance...infact i like piano, its beautyful! You see i have no desire to play the piano... it would be rather boring to me! Besides its hard to ROCK a piano!

I don't know why people think drummers are so dumb.
I started piano when I was seven.
Guitar at nine.
Violin when I was in 6th grade.
And drums in 7th.
I've been singing my whole life.
Does it look like drummers have no melodic ability to you?

I'm only speaking for myself here.
But, any SOUND you make on a drum.
Yah.
It has to have a melodic pitch to it.
