Begin with and perfect the basics, i.e paradiddles, flams, rolls, etc. Knowing and perfecting basic rudiments is key in building efficient snare technique, speed, accuracy, and general ability. Another good tip is to read and write snare music every day. You will grow so much faster if you constantly challenge yourself in sight reading and music writing.

Start with the basics and also be really critical of what you are playing cause i know alot of new snare drummers think they are playing every thing in time and think they know what they are doing but in reality trhey are changing tempo or not even playing what they think they are. just use a metranome and ask somebody whos knows alot about sanre to luisten to you to make sure you are not cheatring yerself out of playing well. Good luck!

Ive been playing snare for about 2 years now, my tips are

Work on basic rudiments. Ive been using this site to help me learn them http://www.pas.org/Resources/rudiments/rudiment.pdf

work on a simple solo piece (preferably an old civil war style where the piece is more rudimental) try the conneticut halftime by pratt.

Practice practice practice. If you know anyone who can help you with your technique, ask them.
