ARTISTS’ BIOGRAPHIES:

RICK LATHAM (USA)
(“The Funk Master-Doctor of Groove”)
(Quincy Jones, Edgar Winter, The Groove Doctors, B.B.King)
Born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina, and now residing in Los Angeles,
Rick is best known as one of the music industry’s most in demand studio and touring drummers today. He is an exciting performing artist, composer, globally renowned author and drum-guru. At just 25 years of age, it was the success of his ground breaking drum text, ADVANCED FUNK STUDIES, that launched him into the international percussion spotlight, but it has been his expertise as a versatile performer that has made him one of contemporary drummings' most respected players. Rick was a featured member of THE EDGAR WINTER BAND for nearly a decade with hundreds of stellar performances, including a special appearance at the 1999 Montreux Jazz Festival. Before moving to LA, Rick was also a member of R&B bass legend CHUCK RAINEY’S band - "Rainey Man." and performed with such greats as the late great B.B.KING during this time. His versatility has also been highlighted on the theme for television's "9 to 5" series, "Fame," the QUINCY JONES produced soundtrack, “Fast Forward” and more recently the DVD release of "Gone in 60 Seconds”, "Daredevil" and “Spiderman”. Shortly after relocating to Los Angeles, Rick released his second successful book CONTEMPORARY DRUM SET TECHNIQUES and soon afterwards the instructional videos that parallel these works.
Rick has toured extensively throughout the U.S., Canada, South America, Europe and Asia and is frequently invited as a featured performer to leading jazz festivals, drum festivals and percussion related events around the world. In a recent feature interview, MODERN DRUMMER Magazine refers to him as “a man who many consider to be one of the best clinicians on the planet”. The magazine also names his ADVANCED FUNK STUDIES among “The 25 Greatest Drum Books Ever Published". Rick endorses DW drums, ISTANBUL MEHMET Cymbals, EVANS Drumheads and PROMARK Sticks. His Autograph Series drumstick "THE RICK LATHAM PROMARK GROOVE STICK 717" and "THE RICK LATHAM CRYSTAL BALL" clear resin bass drum beater are both best sellers at drum shops around the world.

In 1992, while living in New York City, Clayton got another once-in-a-life-time opportunity and started an unbelievable six years of world-wide touring and recording with the incomparable TONY BENNETT. “Performing with Tony has been a thrilling experience. His love of music and entertaining people has won him countless awards from Grammys to Emmys. I’ve had the pleasure of recording with Tony on six albums. Each of the albums received GRAMMY nominations and five of them WON the prestigious award!” Clayton performed for presidents, royalty, charities and beyond.” During this time he also performed with many other great artists including STING, MARIAH CAREY, JAMES TAYLOR, ELVIS COSTELLO, RICKY MARTIN and many more.
