I`m just learning how to play 4 mallets and I`m having trouble holding them properly in my left hand. During marching practice after school it gets really hot and they keep slipping in my hands! Does anyone have any tips on how to fix this? thanks!

It all depends on how you`re holding them. I`ve never had a problem with them slipping even during marching season. When I march bass drum one thing I do before every show is use a rosin bag to dry my hands out. If you put enough on you shouldn`t have a problem, but I don`t know if you wanna do that for when you play mallets. You should be abble to get the bags at any local sports store. Hope I was of some help.

Hey i know this may sound dumb but here in New Mexico it gets super hot during the summer on Christmas it was 70 outside so imagine our summers well anyways when our hands get slippey try changing your grip what type of grip are you using? 4 mallets is fun but a piece that I have worked on called for 6 mallets think about that!lol

try some stick rapps from pro-mark
my fave are the Keiko Abe ones! what grip are you using? if possible try to go to a local college and talk to a prof. they are usually open to help out kids with passion!

Also, if you're working with the Stevens grip, I strongly suggest going through Leigh Howard Stevens' book, Method of Movement. I had a lot of trouble with my mallets sliding out of my hands, but I SWEAR if you read all the chapters and do the exercises on a consistent basis you will see improvement. Also, a lot of times I find that mallets with a finish on the wood make the mallets more slippery, for example any of the Innovative Percussion Mallets. Maybe try using Malletech's (such as CN 14's for Burritt 13's for general purpose), or Encore Nancy Zeltsman series. Also, maybe try using lighter mallets while you are developing the strength in your hands.
