*chuckle* Freshie snare too! Section leader next year I think. Anyways. I`m into the crap u can listen to like DCI solos for free. They seem to impress the judges at my school, here we don`t have to try out to get on line, we have to try out to -stay- on line. at the first game we`re required to play a level 2 or higher solo -well- and they review us marking p1 through 5. 1s are guaranteed spots and sometimes solos, p2s are a little lower etc etc... anyway, just get anything you can get your hands on and practice it sh!tless, maybe you can write your own solo. I did that once.

Pit doesn`t suck, I actually kind of enjoy it. But I`m a freshman and I`ve been waiting to march snare in high school all my life (1st chair in middle school), then couldn`t make it to the snare tryouts, so now I`m stuck in pit for the year. It stinks not being able to do what you really want to.

Yeah Jeff Queen is fairly good at what he does he has some really interesting sticking and backsticking excercises.
A couple things:
Pillow Kid -
What you say is true in the fact that it will build up your chops and make u faster but the other guy is also right in the fact that it really isnt good for your technique. You get used to having to rely on your own strength to lift your sticks when you should be working on velocity strokes (snaps of the wrist that cause your sticks to come back up to the height like a ball bouncing back up afetr you drop it.. you should be playign somewhat through the drum and not just lifting your sticks and hitting them liek a pillow. If you really wanna practic elike this , compromise and buy a practice pad like (moon-gel)which uses the principal of more difficult bounces but also helps you keep your technique.
ANd im not gonna lie im the drumlien captain and center snare but Im a senior and ive been practicing since I was little boy just to get here. All of you freshman who brag about being "teh awesome roxors snare!! woo Im awesome " it doesnt say much for yourself or your drumline... you either have quite poor competition or youre lying. And to the the thug who posted that corps style sucks and your awesome beats would blow them away... I bet everyone on that line could make a joke fo you on any drum of your choice... playing heavy bass beats and eighth-not beats on your snare doesnt mean you rock... the fundamentals and precision any dci player could pull off Im sure would shut you up. look at some dci videos and i`d really like to see you play some of that
Not to sound angry I just hope you young kids take this seriously if it`s a passion. there will always be someone better than you so you should always be striving to achieve your best good luck email me with questions or comments
