Just a quick note to let you all know about a few sites I have online for Sax Players. I`m not gonna start a thread for each but will mention them here quickly.
The Sax Review site has reviews on new saxes and sax stuff we all use. I don`t touch on Vintage because the older saxes are very individual - some good some bad. http://www.saxreviews.com/
The Sax Player site has articles on different styles, tricks, lessons and helps for sax players wanting to learn more about more modern playing styles. http://www.saxophone.us/
The Tenor Sax site has sound clips, famous players, CDs, pictures, lessons, history and even a virtual tenor to play. http://www.tenorsaxophone.us/
My web partner has a great Teen Jazz site for School age kids with High School, College, Camps, Mentors, Concert reviews, girl musician issues and so much more. Shannon Kennedy is the host and has a Teen Jazz directory you can join too. http://www.teenjazz.com/
Many great resources here and links to jsut about every other quality Sax Related Site online.
Just want to encourage you Summer Students to check out all the resources online to help ypu learn about the sax and music. Also, a private teacher for a few months during the summer can really make for a great start to a new school year!
Good luck and remember, you will only have fun doing stuff your good at so get some practice in and it will keep being more fun.
Jay Eastons site is really cool because it has every size of saxophone known to man. From the smallest you can imagine to soooo big that it takes a lift to position it to your mouth.
I totally agree - many cool sites out there. sax solo transcriptions with free samples, altissimo and multiphonic fingering charts, books from the 20's, sax adds from war time, history on the sax and its maker - you name it.
Get online a try a few fun searches today. Remember that great people are learners and they are growing all the time!!

PS - Ever wonder what a pro sax player does all day? I have a blog up, when I have a minute to get to it, and it will give you an idea.

ALSO - my friend Shannon started a bew Teen Jazz forum from www.TeenJazz.com for younger jazz musicians and you-all are welcome to take a peek there too. http://teenjazz.myfreeforum.org/
hey saxboy,
wats sax/s do u play? and what brands/models?
i play the bari, tenor and alto. still saving up to get my own bari and a really good alto. i love my tenor, its this shadow colour (matte black body with silver/black nickle keys), its an M Gerarda. not many people have heard of the brand, neither have i, but it looks kool and has a deacent sound. i cant find anything on the net about them. its a machine when you use an otto links 5 or 8 star (cant remember which one), its awesome. but yeah, i got yamaha alto, nothing special, it was my first sax so its not the best. and i am on a scholarship for bari, which is a yanganisawa. its old but its a beast. my teacher said its a pretty good sax, though he has his own selmer alto, tenor and bari.
i've been playin for about 6 years or something and i'm only 17, but i am not sure what to do with my music after school. i really dig funk music with the bari and tenor!
kool,
cee ya soon

ps. big bad vodoo daddy's is an awesome be bop band as is royal crown revue!
http://www.gregvail.com/sys-tmpl/gear/ has all my sax gear, electronics all. I play Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bari and have recorded on all of them. I have lots of sound clips up if you want to check out my sound on any of the saxes - http://www.gregvail.com/sys-tmpl/soundclips/
The Clips list what instrument is featured so you can go thru them pretty quick. I also have just Alto Clips and Just Tenor Clips on the Alto site and Tenor site.
Caleb - No one knows what they will do with there music after school. I am still figuring it out and I'm old now. Just look for oportunities and take the good ones - it could include sax playing!
If you are gonna go back to school and be just as good as you were the end of the year, it will take some weekly playing before it starts - like 3 days a week for 30-45 minutes will make a big difference!
If you wanted to improve and learn a new thing before school started - you better get on it now! Summer is half over if you have a band camp coming up, maybe even more of it is gone.
Most young players take the summer off, so remember that if you start now, you will be ahead of most the other kids going back to school!
I teach in the Southern California area. Located in South Orange County - Mission Viejo. I have no idea where you might be or if that helps at all but thanks for asking!
Just a quick note that my new Alto Saxophone site is now online. It is all about the Alto Saxophone - Alto Sax Pictures, Alto Sax Sound Clips and Examples, Alto Sax History, Alto Sax questions and answers, Alto Sax Players, Alto Sax CDs, Alto Saxophone beginning lessons - everything you want to know about the Alto Saxophone that I could think of.
