There isn't any best mouthpiece per se, you have to try different combinations and find out what is best for you.

For Jazz Tenor I use an otto-link 7 with a rovner light ligature. For classical I use a Rousseau 5 with a rovner dark ligature.

For Jazz Alto I use a Meyer 7 hard rubber with a generic lig.
For a more contemporary sound I use a Berg-Larson 10, (its not easy to play on) with the lig it came with and for classical I use Selmer C* with a rovner dark.

This is the setup that works for me and may not work for you. Try whatever you can at your local music store, if they don't have it, ask them if they will order it for you to try, they usually will if you have good business relations with them.

When I play Jazz/Rock I use a Meyer 5...I think. It may be a six.

When I play marching/classical I use a selmer C*. If you are in a marching band or whatnot, get the selmer. Problably cost you around 125-150 dollars.

Amro Music - a shop in memphis, dunno if they're anywhere else.

It costs 124 through my band director, though.

My meyer cost me 90.

<Added>

Should I be paying less?

I use a meyer 5 sax mouthpiece for both alto and tenor for jazz and classical.My band teacher recomended the meyer with a rovna lig.I use a yamaha yas-23 in skool but i got a cheap sky alto that plays very good. My tenor i have is a cecillo that was horrible and i just rented one a lg or lm from my highschool. Anyone marchin in the Ussba national championship this year because my school Monsigner Farrell in new york has been state champions for the last 3 years.

i use a s90 + rovner dark on my alto, meyer 5 for jazz, and some $200 metal Vandoren mouthpiece for tenor(school's)...s90 is better than the s80(C*) by far...in my opinion. its gives your sound a darker and rounder tone. s80 is brighter

You use a Meyer for legit playing? That's a good jazz mouthpiece, but not for legit music.

theres plenty of good metal bari mouthpieces and non metal ones. my teacher also let me borrow a metal yanganisawa bari mouthpiece and it made a huge phat sound. i also got this cheaper rico royal high baffle mouthpiece that pumps a phat sound but its not all that good for sax quartets. theres this one called jumbo java which is aparently good for bari!
