I'm a 4 year tenor saxophonist and I've used a Masteller mouthpiece since I've
played tenor sax (3 years). I'd prefer using a hard rubber mouthpiece but metal
mouthpiece would be nice to try. I don't have any experience with other
mouthpieces and I've never played a metal mouthpiece. I own a Conn 10M Tenor Sax
(made in 1952), I use #3 Rico Royal reeds and I own a Masteller size 4
mouthpiece. I want a brighter mouthpiece more suitable for jazz soloing in a 3
or 4 member ensemble. Does Masteller have any nouthpieces to suit my needs?

Please email me with your suggestions

A Conn 10M Tenor Sax from '52 is a begginer model? Do you like the Meyer 5 sound for jazz?

Don't listen to Lera, she doesn't have any idea what she is talking about. A Conn 10M is far from a student model, it's a very nice pro horn, assuming it's in good condition.

So, I take it that you decided to keep the 10M instead of a YTS-23? By the way, a YTS-23 is a student horn.

I personally like large chamber vintage mouthpieces on a vintage horn. If you can't find a vintage piece that you like, try a Morgan Vintage Mouthpiece. You can find one at www.junkdude.com

Go back to SOTW and search "10M Mouthpiece". You will find alot of information.

I kept the Conn instead of trading it for the Yahama. I'm glad I did because my Conn has a better tone and even though it has more resistance I love the sound. I'll try the Morgan but in what facing?

I think you made a wise decision by keeping the Conn.

Call Dave at junkdude, he is extremely helpful. The Morgans are really great pieces. But ask Dave what mpc he would recommend for your horn.

I like my Mayers mouth peace for Jazz but It could sound different with a horn you have. Evry horn is made different and evry player uses different tehnics.

Thanks for the suggestion I'm going to by a Runyon Model 22. If the Runyon doesn't work well I will consider a Meyer.
