I would stay with the main 3 Alto, Tenor, Bari. Soprano is nice but has little use in a school band or Jazz band. If you're learning to play just rent one from the school, until you can figure out if its what you want to play or not. You will have to try them out to find out what is more comfortable for you. I prefer Tenor in a band and Jazz setting, and Alto for solo classical. It all depends on what feels good for you.
Good Luck

Alto is better if you are younger and just starting, as it is easier to hold (not as heavy) and requires much less breath.

as a start i reccomend alto alot that is a student/starter saxophone. and if you do, a yamaha is the best choice for starters. once you get good and you want to swich you should know if you alwayse want to play low or high because it really sucks if you play bari then switch to soprano it sounds really bad. but yes i reccomend a 62 yamaha student alto sax

There are parts for soprano sax in almost everything Grainger wrote...but that's all I know of.

But then again, not every high school jumps and plays Lincolnshire Posy ( One of Grainger's most important works...it's on every top ten band literature list)!!!

I don't think the Lincolnshire Posey part for soprano will be playable by someone who is 13. Just my opinion.
