hey just wondering what size and type of reed you use and how long you've been playing. and on what sax.
tenor i have played one and a bit years and i am on a 3 1/2. rico royal.
bari for about 3ish months and i have a rico 3.
i wanna get a 4 for tenor but i cant find any. blah.
soprano: Vandoren Paris 3 or 3 1/2
alto: Vandoren Paris 3 or 3 1/2
tenor: Vandoren Paris 2 1/2 for jazz, 3 or 3 1/2 for classical, marches, etc.
bari: Vandoren Paris 3
bass: Vandoren Paris 3 for now. Still experimenting.
has this ever happened to you guys? Ur playing with a 3 reed (rico) and u run outta threes and hafta use a 2 1/2. So i used it fur about a week, and when i finally bought threes again, it took me the whole day to get adjusted to them. Does the half-size difference actually matter?
if half size didnt matter they wouldnt make em! lol.
but yeah, your emouture takes a break without you noticing and you just get used to the 1 1/2 again.
i vary form a 2 to a 4 depending on the music i am playing and the difficulty..the harder the music or if i am sight reading i use a 2 or 2.5....but i practice on a 4 and perform on a 3
I have a question about reeds. I am new to the saxophone, but not to playing a woodwind. If my reed has a slight chip in it, (it is pretty small)does it affect the playing?

yeah even the smallest chip can affect playing.

reed breaks... in half. all the way down.
not allowed to get a new one, or too lazy, i forget.
i sounded horrible. i think i played on it for a challenge.
but yeah, even the smallest can screw you over.
no, it already was broken, then the tuba player wacked the freeking tuba into my mouthpeice. then i constantally chewed on it and played with the ligature. hey, i was bored, it was already broken.
Reminds me of my cousins when they come over. Running around all the time. One time they were acting crazy and hit my sax while i was practicing. It banged my lip, hurt like a certain place i cant say.
i've been playing on tenor for 5 years now (Feels longer XD) And I use a 2 1/2 Vandoren or Rico Royal (I can't make up my mind). I want to get into soprano though... I might have to get a higher reed because I tried using a 2 1/2 but I couldn't get past high c..
