Well, I recently got a size 3 reed because I figured two years of size 2 was enough XD I play the Baritone Sax and I cant find out why I sound like a dying duck. People say,"Just practice and it'll sound better." The only problem is, I CANT BARE THE SOUND!!! Can someone please tell me if this is common? And if it isnt, can you tell me what I might be able to do to fix it? So distressed T_T

ear plugs?
well if it was a 2 try a 2 1/2. 2 to a 3 is a jump, not a hop.
well anyhow get back to me if you need anymore help.
and uh, dying ducks usually dont make sound. lol. ;() )

I always thought the bari kinda sounded ducky (no offense-its my second favorite sax). My friend plays bari and he got less ducky over time. Dont worry.

Why change just because you feel you should - if you are playing ok with the numbe reed before I would stick to that

I have only been playing now about year and a half andI read all sorts of material - some said start on a 1 or 1 + half and after a few months gradually increase the reed strength

I also read the advice in the end what I suggested before and my tutor also says this and I definitely believe this is right

I still play on a 1 + half but I tried a 2 not so long ago as it was the only size spare reed I had and my playing was awful

From 2 its best to go to 2.5
try going half a size down. (3 Is too mutch to jump)

hey a good way to know if u need a bigger reed size is if ur sax starts making little sound because ur jaw strenghth closes the gap between reed and mouthpiece and air must travel thru that space to make the reed vibrate and air travel thru......and try moving reed step up a half size not one full. Much luck to ya!
