Hello everybody. Im 14 and new to the alto and this site. Some times when I play my sax, after a while it starts making this rattling sound. I guess you can call it a gurgling sound. My theory is that spit accomulates in the bottom curve and bubbles? It ruins the sound.Any other suggestions. Ta
It's Probably The Spit In Your Mouth Peice. If Your In The Middle Of A Concert, The Only Choice Is To Suck It Out, But If Your Practicing, You Could Just Drain It.
Thanx alot guys!! Im sure it is the spit. Is 30 minutes long enough to accomulate?
and i took the mouse piece and i blew and it did make the gurgling sound so now iknow where its coming from. Thanks again for the adivice!!
It is unlikely to be spit. It could be a pad that has a leaking membrane, so the pad fills with moisture, swells the felt inside the pad, and causes a leak.
However check that the two octave vents are not full of spit.
Some models have tendency to "burble" for low B and sometimes its neighbours. It is an acoustic design problem. A temporary solution is to drop something down inside the bell and leave it there while you are playing. Say a large cork, or your mouthpiece cap. Try it.
Some models have a tendency to burble if the mouthpiece is not pushed on far enough. This is a far more common problem for sop saxes.

Normally when that happens to me, I just suck the spit out of the mouthpiece and clean the instument out with a cleaning-cloth-thing when I'm done playing... It might be a loose key, screw, etc... Either way, you might want to have it looked at.
