Though I've seen pictures of it, I've never seen (or heard) a bass saxophone in person... Just out of curiousity, why do you want to play this bass sax??

I play a bit of tenor sax, and concerning the question of why someone would want to play it, the real question is: why wouldn't someone want to play it? It has such a unique yet not grotesque sound (some bass instruments have a real "hiddeous" sound to them), and some more modern pieces have a bass saxophone.

I didn't mean it that way.
Let me rephrase the question: Why do you want to play such an uncommon instrument?? Do you like it's sound?? Do you enjoy playing the rarely seen and/or heard instuments??
Honestly, I'm not trying to be mean; I just want to know (I'm one of those people who have to know these things or it will continue to bug them until they know).

my lessons teacher brought in a bass sax so i could try it
its in Bb, its HUGE, and its AWESOME!!!!!!!!
it sounds pretty wicked. im an alto/tenor player, but the bass is suprisingly easy
i feel so special!

How big is it?? I've seen pictures, but compared to an alto sax is it incredibly huge??

Go to wikipedia.org and input in the search box "bass saxophone". Its pretty big, amazingly long and fun to blow.

P.S.- im not !*****!, just an oversized sense of humor.

I've actually heard quite a bit of bass sax in musical scores. Does anyone know where to purchase such an instrument? If I had the money, I think I would actually, seriously invest in one...
