Hi guys, remember me?the guy that asked about palying sax by heart?some of you guys must have known me...hehehe...it's been a while since i last posted in the forum, got killer exams for like 2 weeks and i got only 1 month to prepare, so i was kicking my butt in my room, turning ON my nerd mode...but still, i do pratice sax all the time...getting better now, thx to all the support from you guys
anyway, i'm posting this just to keep in touch...i've been wondering for sometime...what makes us want to play sax?what is it that really drives us to play it?erm....is it too personal?'cause if it is, don't respond to it...i'm just curious
me? I choose to play sax 'cause it sounds sensational, the sounds from it makes the atmosphere classy and relaxing...and i love such atmosphere...so i choose sax..and other reason is because it's a rarely-played instrument, so when you mastered it, it's kinda cool isn't it? ^^....so...what's yours?

I originally wanted to play the flute, but my mom told me to play the sax because saxes have the main parts in jazz pieces. I went with her idea and found that I am happy that I went with her decision.
I will try the flute (eventually) just for the heck of it...

i love the sound, its mello and warm, but it gets better parts in music than many instruments. Also i like how its all shiny and curvy. It gets to play in jazz, classical, marching, rock, pop, and is an all around GOD of an instrument. i find more of connection when playing my sax than any other instrument i can play. And that is why i play sax.

My reason for starting sax was not the most obvious one, if not the strangest: I really wanted to play the alto sax solo in Bizet's L'Arlesienne suite. Besides Berlioz, Bizet was one of the first to use the saxophone in the orchestra. Since then, jazz has become more of a favorite for sax for me.

i have the same (other) reason as tenorsax13.....i love the way it shines and curves...and my other other reason ( i got loads of reasons....) that drives me to play sax pops out when i listen to various instrumental jazz, the sax makes the music much more alive and classy....so sax it is... thx for replying

I have to sort of agree with Triforce I really liked the sound of Lisa playing her sax and I thought maybe I should do that. At first I wanted to play the violin but I realized it's not as cool as the sax so I started playing the alto.

truthfully... I wanted to play violin too and then my mom wouldn't let me because her sister played violin and she said that is sounded horrible. She got a great deal on a used unison soprano ($400!!!!) and I played that for 4 years until I found out that that will get me sent to Sax hell starting on a soprano....oops...then I got my alto and have been playing both ever since

I started as a clarinet, but I wanted something to play in jazz band. I started on alto, but didn't really get into it. But, when I marched tenor, I absolutely fell in love with it.
