I have an Evette alto sax which I played growing up. My folks likely bout it used in '79 and it is at their house so I haven't any additional info. I cannot find very much out about this brand. I always had a hard time getting low D out but fellow players never had a problem doing so. Any idea if it might be a "good" one or a cheap-o beginner sax. I'd like to start playing again and don't know if I should buy a new, "better" one or keep this baby. All my cohorts in the sax section back then had Conns.

Evette I believe is a budget saxophone, and considering it has been unused for about 30 years you will more likely be spending quite a bit of money getting it fixed up (pad replacement etc.). Conn is now a branch of the selmer company, their budget sax, but I believe that the vintage ones are worth some money. Right now in my opinion your best bets are Yamaha, Yanagisawa, Selmer, or Keilwerth. Buying one of these may be a bit expensive but they are well worth it.
