I just came back from the Oboe Forum and I learned that oboes can use neckstraps. Fascinated by this discovery, I must know: What other instruments (besides the saxophone) use neckstraps??
any instrument can, really. (maybe not flute and pic)
when marching, tubas use them too. sometimes other instruments use them when standing up of moving around.
Any wind instrument can have one. except for flute, tromebone, Picolo, and maby trumpet.
I sometimes use one with mmy Clarinet,(when my wrist and Thumb hurt)
I always use a neckstrap for my clarinet. I know a clarinet is not that heavy, but I play every day up to 2 hours, sometimes even 3 our 4 (when I have band rehearsals), and when you only put your strap on when your thumb or wrist hurts, it's already to late.
As for the alto sax, my strap is actually too big (the girl who played this sax before had a bigger neck I think), so when I practice I don't use the strap all the time. Mostly I sit on a chair and put the sax between my legs. But when I stand up, I always use the strap. Don't you guys think a sax is to heavy to hold all by yourself while playing?
Tenor and bari are too heavy for me without a neckstrap but alto and higher are easy too carry around w/ no strap. When i played clarinet i just used this little squishy thumb pad thing, and it worked great.
did you know clarinets can have neckstraps too?.. smh.. if any clarinetists use them then they're just wimps.. but they're still available.

oo sorry someone already mentioned clarinets. but yea i think they just get in the way.. unless you have a tendency to drop them or cou have to play for long periods of time
