my band directer is hounding me on taking private lesson and other people are telling me to do private lessons too. I don't know i really don't want to because money wise and i like the in school lessons i like those because to me i learn more on that then any private lessons i go to music camps and take lesson there. I guess my question is should i take private lessons and why.

The question you have to ask yourself is "are you serious about playing the saxophone"? If you aren't serious about, don't bother spending the money on it, and enjoy it while you play. If you are serious about it, private lessons are a must.
Working with an instructor will help you break bad habits, and reinforce good habits. Many students who don't take lessons, do not understand the importance of key fundamentals, like longtones, chord and scale work, voicing, correct vibrato techniques, correct embouchoure, different techniques for playing various styles, and many others.
There are many other reasons to take lessons but I think the main one, is to have a mentor, someone you can ask questions to about various problems or even to get feedback on your own improvement.
Good Luck whatever you decide.

If you want to be a teacher you will have no choice, once you get to college you will be taking private lessons. If you take lessons before that you will be much farther ahead of the pack.
