I've been noticing lately that my tone is deteriorating--it's been getting kind of airy and rough--and I can't figure out why. I've been doing lots of long tones to try and correct this problem, but it really hasn't been getting any better. I recently changed my the style of my mouthpiece saver from one of those clear plastic ones to one of the thicker black opaque ones. Could this have changed things? It's possible that the saxophone has a leak. I've tried a million different reeds, and it's definitely not the reed. My tone on soprano and tenor hasn't gotten like this, either, so I don't think it's necessarily my fault...HELP...

It can be thet you are not used to having anything thicker on your mouthpeace and you need to adjust your embroshure.
