I am currently an oboe player but i'm thinking about learing the baritone saxophone to play for pep-band at our school. Does anyone have any suggestions or know of a fair-priced instrument that i could buy? Any help is greatly appreciated!

oh, well rent one before you buy.
those arent cheep.
lets see... they take a lot of air. i dont know much about oboe...
but baris... ah ha. i know them.
so yeah lots of air... ahem...
thats just about it. i mean thats probally the biggest thing.
i think the fingerings are simmilar. well i know that saxophones are pretty
striaght forward. watch your pinky keys. your pinkys will be able to lift your weight after you learn bari. did i help? ah ha. good luck.

Yeah, rent one and hope you have a good time with the bari... if you are positive you want to play bari. I mean its an awesome saxophone but it is quite different from the oboe I would have to say. So if you really want to- rent a bari.

oboes take A LOT of air and my oboe teacher said that the embouchure of a saxophone is very similar to that of the oboe. i did play flute for pep band, but that was starting wreck my embouchure because it is way different, so i decided to try a baritone saxophone because our school only has two bari sax players.

Yea you will also have a strong embouchure on bari sax b/c of you playing oboe. But warning, from personal experience, when playing bari sax for a while, you get used to the large sized mouthpiece, and your embouchure tends to loosen a bit. Try playing oboe at least an hour or to each day to keep a tight oboe embouchure.
