Last month I sold a mint condition Yamaha YAS-23 student model alto saxophone for buy-it-now $450. A lot of people try and get MUCH more for their saxophones than they're worth (in my opinion). I'm not sure if you do the eBay thing but here are some links to decently-priced Yamaha saxophones. I played alto sax from 2002 until 2006 and am a woodwind player. I played a Bundy II alto my senior year and a vintage student model Conn in satin silver from 2004 until 2006. Last month I play-tested the YAS-23 model before selling it and I was quite surprised with the ease of playability and projection throughout all registers. The low B was VERY easy to make out and even the high E was easy to play given the fact that the saxophone didn't need adjustments, etc. So, as of right now, I recommend the 23 model by Yamaha or vintage satin silver saxes. =) Here are some ebay links:

Ooh, be careful with that, the fingerings and embouchure on the sax are different from the clarinet. If you know any saxophonists, get them to show you the correct embouchure. Sometimes I find myself using my clarinet embouchure on my sax. It makes it "chirp" a lot. It can get really frustrating.

Good luck!
