haha don't quote me on the bari's are harder to tune funny people but i will, all the saxophones are as similiar to tuning its just the type of saxophone you have. i myself still have a my first saxophone (bundy II) and i love it however it can't hit high C (above staff) so im deciding to get a new saxophone. But i've been playing bari for 1 1/2 years and alto for about 4 and tenor for few months. If you started on alto i say that you should go on to bari, because they are Eb instruments while the sop and the tenor are Bb instruments. yes bari mouthpeice are insanely big compared to the alto and bari reeds are like 3 times the price of alto reeds. but its an easier move from alto to bari because you won't have to change your fingerings of playing mostly F# to mostly F. how ever when switching from alto to tenor or bari you may find it boring because that you don't have the melody and more and normally playing the bass part with the tubas or the baritones (not sax's brass baritones)

ok, this is my first post. i played sax in jr high and put it down around 9th grade. i started on alto and eventually moved to bari. it seemed very natural at the time.
i was taught absolutely no theory. if you put some music in front of me and let me here the song a couple of times i could play it. i was just a monkey basically. i could mimic but i didn't understand anything about why one note followed another.
anyway, i decided to teach myself to play bass a few years ago. same thing, i can listn to a song and either spit out the bass line or make one up that works.
about a year ago i decided to play sax again. first i bought a chu alto, then i bought an old king bari for next to nothing and finally i bought a super 20 tenor.
now, that's my background if it helps any with what i am about to say.
it is much harder to play the alto than either the tenor or bari. the tenor blows the most freely. if you go by what you read that is supposed to be a highly sought after horn, though. the bari is a new voll-true. there are people that say this is a junk horn. they would say a zephyr is a better horn. fact is the only changes made in the baris at that transition were cosmetic (same horn different engraving). the chu which is a sought after horn requires alot more strength behind the air (you have to blow hard and there is what feels like back pressure).
i guess in the end i think that the tenor is physically the easiest of the three to play. the bari requires a little more control of embrochure as you go up and down the scale and good lung capacity. the alto requires a lot harder blowing than the others.
keep in mind i am playing vintage horns that have personalities that have to be taken into account.
in school i was playing student model conn's.
so, finally. if you play alto now you should find both tenor and bari easier to play after a little adjustment.
sorry, didn't mean to ramble but felt like you should understand my experience and what i play on because different makes and models do make a difference in how a horn plays.

that's like saying "can you switch from flute to picc easily"
Of course you can, but its gonna take the same amount of practice to make your tone as good as it was on the flute, or in this case, alto.

That are good info from both of you.

Some articles clearly say that tenor sax is supposedly the most appropriate sax to begin with. The bigger sized tenor makes beginners(youngers) to sax to choose the alto the smaller and lighter in weight.

I've been playing Bari Sax for roughly 5yrs and played tenor for 2yrs and Alto for few months, and I'll say by far I love playing the Bari more than any other sax. When it comes to tuning the horn, I haven't had so much trouble tuning the Bari. Since I started playing Bari in high school, I usually was in tune. As far as fingerings go they are all identical Alto, Tenor, Bari. It does not matter. Play a "G" on Bari then go play a "G" on tenor/alto, the fingering will be the same. Now, as some has mentioned, Alto and Bari Saxes are in the key of Eb while Sopranos/Tenors are Bb instruments so there will be some transposing involved. Another thing i've read on other posts is about how much reed/mouthpice you bite, since i've been playing I would just take on the tip and breathe/blow from the diaphram and push that air.
