Also, the history of saxophone performance practices, the sopranino in F, conductors, the voice and the saxophone, music critics, recording studios, jazz bands, the F alto saxophone, Marcel Mule speaks of his relationship with Charlie Parker and much, much more. Dazzling!

SIGURD RASCHER

Rich!
Sigurd Rascher two DVDs $29.95

RUDY WEIDOEFT
Shining star of the 1920s - who WAS the flaming 20’s - whose incredible technique and musicality brought the “Saxophone Craze” to its burning zenith. This DVD has all of his sides – ragtime, exotica, the clowns, classics, and saxophone ensembles as well as the famous novelties which he is largely remembered for. No one has ever surpassed the great speed and precision of his toughing. Hear Rudy make the saxophone talk as no one ever has or ever will again. He sings, sobs, laughs, ejaculates, jokes, complains, grumbles, brays, dreams, hiccups, barks, swoons, growls, moans, quacks, crows, burps, screeches, sighs, and weeps. He was a ragtime player and not a jazz player. However, much of the vocabulary of jazz saxophone came from Rudy Weidoeft. This DVD contains an interview / demonstration where he displays some of his famous saxophone
antics in a duet with Bernie Kruger “The Clown of the Saxophone”, a stunning performance showcasing his humorous virtuoso pyrotechnics in a Brown Brothers getup with his Rudy Weidoeft Saxophone Quintet, a comedic film where a 25 foot double sub contrabass saxophone is featured, a film performance featuring a Buescher straight Bb baritone saxophone, many audio tracks of Rudy Weidoeft, a fascinating lecture/performance on the flaming 1920s featuring Rudy Weidoeft’s life and music and much, much more. Golden toned miraculous playing!
Special Bonus! A rare color cartoon of the era where all the characters talk – with saxophones. Fantastic!
Rudy Weidoeft DVD $24.95

SPECIAL! The complete set of the four DVDs is $69.95

We Proudly Present AUDIO CDs

JEAN H. B. MOEREMANS
RECITAL WITH PIANO AND FLUTE Great Sousa soloist of 1894 - 1905 One of the very earliest recordings of a saxophonist. Jean Moremans probably played in the manner of Sousa’s first solo saxophonist the great virtuoso and pioneer Edward Lefebre. This is a rare glimpse of the saxophone as Adolphe Sax himself envisioned it. There is an almost flutelike purity to his sound. Many different settings. Includes probable performances with the Sousa Band. This is his complete existing recorded output. Fascinating!
Special Bonus! The inclusion the earliest known recording (circa 1890s) of a Tenor Saxophone.
One CD $19.99 on both Alto and Tenor

H. BENNE HENTON
SOLOS WITH CONCERT BAND AND CONCERT BAND WITH STRINGS Great Sousa soloist of 1919 - 1920. Historic! The first recording of a saxophonist playing in the altissimo range. Many different settings. This is his complete existing recorded output. An unforgettable artist and poet of the saxophone. With a vibrant sound - that is more a voice than a tone - he sings with great command and lyrically floats over the orchestra. Includes probable performances with the Sousa Band. Extraordinary!
One CD $19.99 on Alto

THE SIX BROWN BROTHERS
SAXOPHONE SEXTET This is their complete recorded output – both commercial (CD #1 and #2) and private (CD #3). Five of the Six Brown Brothers actually were brothers from the Ringling Brothers Circus who began a Ragtime Vaudeville Saxophone Show dressed as clowns. Together with Edward Lefebre and Rudy Weidoeft they were the primary catalysts for the unbelievable Saxophone Craze of the 1920s which started with the included “Bullfrog Blues” with its croaking bass sax, “Moanin` Saxophone Blues” and the hilarious squawks of “Chicken Walk”. Entertaining!
CD #1 $17.99 1911-1919 on Alto, Tenor, Baritone and Bass
CD #2 $17.99 1919-1920 on Alto, Tenor, Baritone and Bass
Treasures from many years of patient searching. This contains recordings from Tom Brown’s private collection and those long considered lost. None of these recordings have ever been available to the public. Includes “Rosey Cheeks” which is the only recording of Tom Brown playing an Adolphe Sax soprano saxophone with the Six Brown Brothers. Two of the recordings are among the earliest electrical recordings found. It is startling to hear the sound of these early saxophonists with such clarity. An amazing find!
CD #3 $11.99 on Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Baritone and Bass
Special Bonus! The inclusion of the first saxophone musicologist Cecil Leeson interviewing C.L. Brown.

SPECIAL! The complete set of BROWN BROTHERS CDs #1, CD #2 and CD #3 is $39.99
CDs #1, CD #2 and CD #3 is $39.99

CLYDE DOER
SOLOS WITH CONCERT BAND and RECITAL WITH PIANO Doer started his music career as a concertmaster with a major American Orchestra. Like all violinists of the 1910s he found the he was forced to double on the newly popular saxophone and became the top commercial player. In spite of this, Doer became one of the most prominent artists of the 1920s saxophonists. He had a beautiful technique reflecting a violin-istic bowing approach to phrasing. This, along with a throat vibrato, gave Doer a completely unique sound. Uncommon!
One CD $9.99 on both Alto and Baritone

CECIL LEESON
RECITAL WITH PIANO Major Classical Soloist whose role models were the Sousa virtuosos especially H. Benne Henton. He is at his peak, here in the 1930s. Performs the “Creston Suite” with composer Paul Creston on the piano. Beautiful clean saxophone sound. Includes other works. Great straight-ahead virtuosity!
One CD $16.99 on Alto

MARCEL MULE
The great virtuoso and teacher who inspired all.

ORCHESTRAL SOLOS WITH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA Famous and historical performances. “Bolero”, with composer Maurice Ravel conducting Marcel Mule on Bb soprano saxophone. And the precedent shattering performance of Pablo Casals conducting Bach’s “Brandenburg Concerto Number 2” with Marcel Mule soaring up and over, high above the ensemble on Eb sopranino saxophone……in lieu of the high trumpet part. And, of course, the sensuous Debussy “Rhapsodie” and the exquisite lyricism of Bizet’s L’Arlesienne suites No. 1 and No. 2. Spellbinding! Essential for all serious orchestral saxophonists!
CD #1 $12.99 on Sopranino, Soprano and Alto

CONCERTOS LIVE! WITH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA Live recording. The Ibert “Concerto” and the Tomasi “Concerto” with Munch conducting the Boston Symphony Orchestra. This is the day Marcel Mule conquered America. Historic! Feel and hear just how stunning Marcel Mule sounded with an orchestra. The definitive portrait of a great and important artist. Inspiring!
CD# 2 $19.99 on Alto

SAXOPHONE QUARTET VOLUME I The Selmer family had purchased the Sax family’s factory. The Marcel Mule Quartet plays here on the then new Selmer saxophones and mouthpieces which had a more powerful, modern tonal concept. Transcriptions of Baroque and Late Romantic works. Includes the beautiful Tchaikovsky, the passionate Spaniards Albeniz and Scarlatti.
The model of perfect and sensitive ensemble playing! Only the Ellington saxophone section matched their fantastic unity and cohesiveness.
CD #3 $12.99 on Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Baritone

SAXOPHONE QUARTET VOLUME II The Marcel Mule Quartet playing improved models of saxophones/mouthpieces which Marcel Mule developed for Selmer. This CD contains 20th century French masterpieces. This is sublime art in the absolute sense….performed with imagination, precision and verve. Marcel Jose was a prominent symphony Cellist who switched to Baritone saxophone. His elegant baritone is prominent here with a cello-istic bowing approach to phrasing and a warm singing sound. Listen to this and the Siguird Rascher Quartet CDs and you will hear just why so many composers were inspired to write for these Quartets. A must have for all saxophonists!
CD #4 $17.99 on Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Baritone

SPECIAL! The complete set of The MULE SAXOPHONE QUARTET CDs #3, CD #4 is $25.99

RECITAL LIVE! WITH PIANO Live recording. Hear what Marcel Mule really sounded like. Feel the presence of the great master. Hear the Glasnov, his interpretation of the Ibert with altissimo, his jaunty “Sonatine Sportive”, the lovely Bach “Flute Sonata” and other works. Unforgettable performance!
CD #5 $19.99 on Alto

SPECIAL! The complete set of the MULE Live! CDs #2, CD #5 is $34.99

RECITAL I WITH PIANO Includes Marcel Mule’s interpretation of the lyrical Creston “Sonata”, his graceful ease with the “Tableaux de Providence”, the unusual “Eskualdunak Sonata” the unaccompanied Massis “Caprices” and other works. Wonderful virtuosity.
CD #6 $12.99 on Alto

RECITAL II WITH PIANO Lots of action, movement and animation here. Includes Marcel Mule playing the Tomasi “Giration”, his elegant unaccompanied Bonneau “Valse”, the Dubois “Divertissement” and other works. Effortless fluency!
CD #7 $12.99 on Alto

SIGURD RASCHER
The great virtuoso and teacher who inspired all.

RADIO INTERVIEW 1987 radio interview where Sigurd Rascher talks about the saxophone’s career with its triumphs and heartbreaks - including some little known saxophone stories and unusual facts. Also, some uncommon playing as soloist. Tremendously fascinating!
CD #1 $19.99 on Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Baritone, Bass and Contrabass

CONCERTOS LIVE! WITH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA Live recording. Feel the presence of the master! The Glasnov, Ibert, Martin and Karsson. Absolutely unbelievable virtuosity on the Ibert…….plays as if on fire. Historic! His playing forever changed the concept and limits of the word saxophonist. A must have for all saxophonists.
A magnificent and important artist at his peak!
CD #2 $19.99 on Alto

CONCERTOS I WITH SYMPHONIC WINDS The fiendishly difficult original version of the Dahl “Concerto” and much more. A demonstration of the delicate balance Sigurd Rascher maintains between the physical, the emotional and the intellectual that may never be seen in another saxophonist.
Dahl revised this in 1953 because no other human being could play it.
CD #3 $9.99 on Alto

CONCERTOS II WITH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA This CD offers a unique glimpse of Mr. Rascher playing musics both extremely adventurous and extremely accessible. He was always pushing the envelope for saxophonists. The “Saxo-Rapsody” is melodically juicy light classical music with the orchestra conducted by the composer Eric Coates. Light classical music was the pop music of times prior to the 1920s. The Haba “Sonata”, which is avant-garde music with whole tone scalar melodies and quartertones, played A Capella. The Haba is close miked which is something Rascher did not like. However, the clarity is easily the best of all his commercial and noncommercial recordings – just stunningly clear. You can really hear the legendary Rascher tone and all its coloristic and textural nuances. The Brant is a country “Concerto” marked by humor and contains thematic material that resembles commercial or film score music. On the Brant he plays like some tightrope walker high above……a full 4 octaves up to a precarious high B. Wild! Melodious! And Humorous!
CD #4 $12.99 on Alto

CONCERTOS III WITH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA The Erickson “Concerto” and the sultry Debussy “Rhapsodie”. Extreme precision and a palette of tone colors, vibratos, textures and attacks unmatched by any other saxophonist.
CD #5 $9.99 on Alto

SPECIAL! The complete set of Sigurd Rascher CONCERTOS CDs #2, CD #3, CD #4, CD #5 is $44.99

SAXOPHONE QUARTET VOLUME I Sigurd Rascher on Alto, Carina Rascher on Soprano, Bruce Weinberger on Tenor and Linda Bangs on Baritone. This is the Original Rascher Saxophone Quartet playing on Buescher saxophones/mouthpieces which are close to Adolphe Sax’s original design and with a tonal concept as described by the inventor. A different, darker toned, sonorous approach compared to the Marcel Mule Quartet. A rich variety of musical styles from vocal, choral and instrumental music of the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern periods. Each piece knowledgably done in the appropriate style using their infinite palette of dynamic range, rhythm, tempo, pitch, attacks, phrasing, tonal shadings, textures and colors. Great and beautiful art!
CD# 6 $12.99 on Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Baritone

This CD includes both the recording of a small ensemble of 11 players and the recording of the large ensemble of 25 players. A magnificent saxophone orchestra!
