Hi guys
i have played alto sax for nearly five yrs but just started sop about 3 months ago and there r a few questions i have in mind which i hope to ask for some advises

i`m currently renting a E.M. Winston 350GL sop for first try out on the sop. Is this a good horn? i`m planning on continuing with the sop, should i get a better sop(becoz i realize this is a beginner lvl sax)
Can anyone sugguest me a few good sop sax?(i can pretty much afford a $2000US one but not a pro one)
i`m think of getting another sop coz the 350GL sounded really werid to me sumtimes and the notes higher than the high G r always sharp(i mean very sharp, the B is so sharp that the tuner can go almost to C) Is it just off tune and require a tune-up or its the sax problem? Or is it my problem? coz i heard that the sop is very hard to play in tune.

Also, how is the metal mouthpieces different from the wooden ones? do most of the pro sax solo players use metal mouthpiece? coz the sound they made is always very different from mine. Even when i tried it with my alto(a JK SX90R) i can never make those....sharp, brassy and a bit trumpet-like feeling sounds they make all the time, especially on the high notes. Is it just becoz of the mouthpiece they use or is it just me lacking a special techqiue to do such thing?
i have always think those sounds r result of a metal mouthpiece coz it sounds quite metal to me haha
anyone knows y??

There r still a bunch of things i don understand about sax....but i`ll just ask for these for now
thx thx thx

Yamaha seems to make a good soprano. Lots of guys use Yamaha sopranos, even if they play Selmer tenors/altos. If you don`t have the $$$ for a good one you won`t get a good one. Sound is all about the emboushure - then the reed and mouthpiece - then the horn. Sopranos are an adventure - enjoy the ride...

you can try looking on eaby for a soprano sax. Some of the pro models sell for a little over 1,000.
The sound you`re describing is usually from a mouthpiece that`s made for a bright sound....usually metal, and it also involves knowing how to produce that sound with the proper embouchure. A bigger tip opening would help as well. Good luck, I also started on alto and added a soprano.

I just went to solo and ensemble and I played a soprano sax in a sax quartet. It was a Selmer Paris Mark 6 and it produces an sweet sweet sound. Selmer and Yamaha both make good saxes but I prefer Selmer.
