I`m a freshman and I play alto sax in the A jazz band. If you guys who were talking about the blues scales want to do improv, get the computer program "Band-in-a-Box". it plays the chord changes and you pick the key and type in the changes you want to play over. You can also pick instruments....if you really want to solo to the background of oboes and accordions...

hey, I`m a ninth grader and my best advice is get in jazz band. they have a lot harder music than concert or symphonic. that`s cuz saxes rock. we`re the soloing instrument. haha! yeah, well, to let you know i thought music in middle school was easy too, but soon as u hit high school, bang! it gets two levels harder. i went from level 3 to 5. it`ll get better. and if u can`t wait, go to a music store near you and check out the jazz books they have. there should be a fairly decent selection.

Hey guys~! we had this piece of music called yakety sax!! it featured all saxophones and was the best piece ever suggest it to everyone unfortunately i dont have it anymore but oh well i also suggest All That Jazz from Chicago! cool song also alot of good alto sax soli/solos

Yo, Sophmore in College, been playing since 6th grade. Middle school band music is a joke. High School is hard for a Freshman. College Jazz is really, extremely, hard man. I was not ready for it, especially since I was 1st chair from 6th-12th grade. You will learn that by competing with others from other schools...you suck. All I gotta say is make your own music up, learn to solo good. I cant find free sheet music either.
oh yeah...whats with all of the middle schoolers. No offence or anything but does dorm life really this bad that I communicate with middle schoolers??? Again, no offence.
im in high school and i think dorm life would be a lot better living at home and at home i am unable to play my alto my sisters do not like it and it sucks.. but i have been playing for 8 years and i am now in my high school jazz band... and i am going to be out of school in june ha
