Hate to burst any bubbles and mean no direspect but finishes do affect the sound. in regard to the CJS`s the Brass, and Black are going to produce a brighter sound. whereas the ET will give a much darker sound. Hope this has been helpful. The vintage brass is no longer available. in which when it was available it produces a bright and loud sound due to the lack of lacquer it was but pure raw metal.
Jaten is absolutely correct! Follow me on this: Your sound starts in the mouthpiece where the reed vibrates. So guess what? The material that your piece is made of is important. That sound, once it leaves your mouthpiece, travels through the neck and horn. A saxophone actually vibrates when you play it. The extent depends on the density and finish of the metal that was used. That`s right, I said finish.
The Chicago Jazz Series horns are absolutely impeccable when it comes to finish. My tenor is identical to the black nickel model. I will NEVER need to buy another tenor saxophone again! These babies have metal resonators and the action is superb. The intonation will blow you away too. If you are wanting to whisper sweet-nothings on a ballad, or blast off on a solo over amplified instruments, this baby can do it all. Seriously......THESE HORNS ARE HOT!!!! If my testimonial isn`t enough, try these guys........http://www.lasax.com.
Wow~ thanx ~ it`s really amazing to see so many replies~
I`ve visited their website and got still one question left~
what kind of music are they made for ?~ or whatever?~
And I`d like to make more altissimo notes~ and as you`ve said, the black one is better?~ But I like the finish of the Et ..... what`s finish of the Black ~? details ?~ just something black .....?~
Yes, they can both be used for Jazz. only difference is the sound as I stated earlier, Black being bright and the ET with a darker sound.
Tom Scott is using a Black tenor but also fell in love with the sound of the ET in which he uses in an alto. Really depends on what kind of sound you are looking for!
Good Luck and Happy Hunting!
